As for Willem himself, he creates to escape, needing to fully immerse himself into each sound, each track, until it transcends his original thought—then he’s on to the next one.

Willem’s musical influences include The Velvet Underground, Patience and Prudence, James Brown, and DJs Soul Clap and Aphex Twin—the latter of which helped shape his idea of what it means to be an artist. Beyond music, he loves The Mighty Boosh, and spends a lot of time reading and researching UFO history, citing influence from Star Trek, Arthur C. Clarke, and Bob Lazar. His fascination with aliens and the paranormal makes its way into his work quite a lot—and maybe it’s those weird secret samples he mixes in with his music that make it so unique.

You might catch Willem DJing around Los Angeles, where he’s held residencies at The Viper Room, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the Bronson Bar, Bigfoot Lodge, or playing with one of his bands, FIM, or Juggs. He’s performed on the Heineken Stage at Coachella and spent several years working at the (very haunted) Village Recorders in West LA—and survived to tell the tale.

Willem is also a street artist and is currently apprenticing with Shepard Fairey in between gigs and sessions in his hometown of Los Angeles, CA.
